The Art of Descaling: How to Clean Your Coffee Brewer

In this blog post, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of descaling your coffee machine, keeping it in top condition for brewing delicious coffee.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before starting the descaling process, gather the necessary supplies. You will need a citric acid solution, water, a clean cloth, gloves, and a carafe or container to collect the descaling solution.

Step 2: Prepare the Descaling Solution

For a homemade descaling solution, dilute the citric acid based on its concentration. Follow the guidelines on the container. If you prefer a commercial descaling solution, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the proper dilution ratio.

Step 3: Descaling Process

  • Ensure that the coffee maker is turned off and cool before starting the descaling process.
  • Remove any remaining coffee grounds from the filter basket and carafe.
  • Fill the water reservoir with the descaling solution.
  • Place a clean filter in the filter basket and turn on the brew cycle. Allow half of the descaling solution to brew and then turn off the coffee maker.
  • Let the descaling solution sit in the coffee maker for about 15-30 minutes to break down mineral deposits.
  • Finish brewing the rest of the descaling solution.
  • Discard the descaling solution in the carafe and rinse the water reservoir thoroughly with clean water.

Step 4: Rinse and Clean

  • Once the descaling process is complete, run multiple cycles of clean water through the coffee maker to rinse out any remaining descaling solution.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the coffee maker with a clean cloth.

Step 5: Brew a Test Pot

Finally, brew a test pot of water to ensure that there is no residual taste or smell from the descaling solution. If needed, repeat the rinsing process until the water runs
